It's definitely a little tough deprogramming from dA. We had a tough time figuring it out at first, too. The site is still in beta, so i'm sure there's lots of changes to come.
Here's some helpful tips:
All of your status messages (as you might have seen) show as pop-ups in the upper right corner of the top navigation bar. Hover to see what they are, and click them to go there....Try to remember that when you delete anything from these status update areas they're gone forever. For example, if you click on a comment status update pop-up, and then delete it from the page it brings you to, the comment is gone from the place it was left.
To see what your friends are submitting and updating, just click the artician logo, and scroll down to the Network Activity Box. I prefer going to the Control Panel. That's where all your account stuff is managed, and you can get to your friends stuff from there by clicking the Network tab at the top.
Submitting is different, too. RAR and ZIP files are added to static images as "attachments", and rather than having a million subcategories to get lost in, here you simply choose through a few main categories to find the best fit, and then choose "Style" tags that best describe your work. You also have the option to tag your work (not unlike the keywords on dA) which helps in your work surfacing from a search. These tags show on your front page, the more same tag-words you have, the larger that word is on your profile's tag box. You an check mine out on my profile to see what i mean.
I like most, i think, that I'm not stuck in a message center all day. When I go to dA, I never see my friends pages... 'cause i'm too busy trying to wipe out the hundreds of things in the message center. The only comments the are threaded here are on submissions and in the forums. Everything else is done by going to your friend's front page. They're working on a "wall-to-wall" function like face book... so that will be nice when it's done!
And last but not least... customize this bitch! Your entire profile page is customizable. You simply click the Customize button on the top nav and you can choose from many very nicely done artician skins, decide which modules on your profile you want to show... add custom text, choose the amount of almost anything in them, and if you're feeling a little bit brave... you can even CSS your whole page yourself. It's YUM!!!!
